(medication for your furry friend)
Compounding pharmacies are veterinarians’ best friends. It can sometimes be difficult to get animals to take their medication. Even when it’s wrapped in food, we’ve all seen our pets miraculously spit out their medicine while swallowing their treat.
Compounding eliminates this issue.
Our pharmacy is not an alternative to veterinarians. Instead, our specialty service allows veterinarians to broaden their prescribing abilities.
Veterinarians can control the prescription strength, dosage size, and formulation, enabling them to completely customize the medication to fit the needs of their pet patients.
For many pets, a transdermal solution may be the best option for healing.
Applying a lotion, gel, or cream is a direct and stress-free method to administer medication. This works great for animals that should not be stressed out due to cardiovascular or hypertensive issues.
The compounded medication can be applied to the inside of an animal’s ear or another hairless area to deliver the drug.
This is an excellent method for avoiding a battle with animals who strongly resist being medicated and for directly addressing the site of infection or swelling.
Also known as “mucosal bandages,” these are medicated wraps that adhere to a wound or mucosal surface.
This creates a protective barrier and delivers the medication through consistent contact with the affected area.
Often, animals will lick the area of their wound and bandage it. This can be dangerous if the animal reinjures the wound or swallows the external preparation.
We can add a bitter substance to the bandage to avoid licking.
Phenytoin helps promote wound healing through several mechanisms. Lidocaine helps reduce pain at the site of the wound.
When combined with a polyox bandage, positive results can be observed.
We love our animals and work with veterinarians to develop individualized medications. Our pharmacy specializes in customizing medications to meet the animal’s needs.
Our puppy patients come in various shapes and sizes, so we work to provide medicines that are as unique as they are. We can adjust dosage size, strength, form, flavor, composition, and more!
