Tetracaine Lollipops

What is Tetracaine?

Tetracaine is a local anesthetic that is commonly used to numb a specific area of the body. It functions by preventing the passage of nerve impulses that convey pain signals to the brain. Tetracaine is often used in dental procedures, eye surgeries, and other medical operations where pain relief is necessary. It is administered in a variety of ways including injections, topical creams, and in the form of tetracaine lollipops. Tetracaine is a reliable method of providing pain relief, but it must only be applied under the guidance of a trained healthcare expert.

Why Use Lollipops?

Tetracaine lollipops are great because they offer a convenient and easy-to-use method of administering local anesthesia. These lollipops are readily available whenever oral pain relief is required. People will often suck on the lollipop for their pain to subside, then cover the lollipop and store it until they need it again. Though the lollipops resemble the candy, it is not recommended to completely finish the lollipop in one sitting. It will need to be used only when pain relief is necessary.

3 Main Components of Tetracaine Lollipops

Active Ingredient

This is the actual drug that provides the medicinal properties. In this case it is tetracaine hydrochloride. A dosage amount sufficient for therapeutic effects is added to the mixture depending on the needs of the patient.

Flavoring

Tetracaine is a very bitter drug. This is why a proper flavoring formula must be added in order to make the lollipop enjoyable. Especially for children. This includes flavors such as grape, cherry, tutti frutti, and more.

Base

The entire lollipop can’t be made out of the active ingredient, a base must be used in order to allow the medication to maintain it’s lollipop form. Our bases come from PCCA and are constantly tested for their quality.

Tetracaine Lollipops for Children

Tetracaine lollipops are especially useful for children. If a child is afraid of needles or other medical equipment, they may be more open to applying the local anesthetic through a lollipop. Tetracaine lollipops provide pain relief in a way that is less intimidating and less stressful for the child. Overall, tetracaine lollipops are a user-friendly and accessible way of providing pain relief during and following dental procedures.

How to Use Tetracaine Lollipops

As mentioned, the lollipop should not be completely consumed in one sitting. The recommendation is for a patient to suck on the lollipop for 10 – 15 seconds. The saliva generated will help provide the numbing effects. Direct the saliva in your mouth to the area with pain. The saliva should then be swallowed in order to numb your throat. Numbing should occur approximately 2 minutes after the application. Repeat this process as needed every 2 to 3 hours.

Common uses for Tetracaine Lollipops

The most common use for these lollipops is relief from pain after a tonsillectomy. Tonsillectomies are one of the most common surgeries for kids and teens. It’s lollipop form allows for an easier and more amenable application. They can also be used for other dental procedures such as removing molars. Tetracaine lollipops are also used to reduce pain from oral lesions.
